WIP: Tamiya P-47 Thunderbold (Buddy Build)

It has been a long winter, spring, summer and now fall.  I have been modelling but not updating the blog.  I have some updating to do. Here we go...

Using Tamiya paint and Leveling Thinner 400

Using my trusty Patriot 105 for this base coat.  NO tip drying of ANY kind with Tamiya and leveling thinner.  Thin thinned down coats always helps.

 Adding the canopy

stippled on some Mr.. Surfacer 500 then painted.

SOME chipping.  Did not want to go too heavy.

Used Future on the model, an old bottle I had.
The decals kept getting cloudy and after a few hours they dried fine.
Got scared and coated the model with Aqua Gloss.
 Better coverage
For some reason the decals were reacting weird when put on to the Future, maybe it was too old?.

But after drying the clouding went away.

With the Aqua Gloss on, no issues at all with the decals.
This decal was a Pain IN THE ASS.  Needed heat, and tons of decal setter to make it flatten properly.

In the end it was fine.  Tamiya decals are TOOOOOOOOO thick.
Used all 3 to get that white Indian head decal bachround to set right.

WIP: Tamiya P-47 Thunderbolt (Buddy Build)

Continuing along with the P-47, the kit is a sweet one.  I wish the rivets were native instead of me having to put them on.   PAIN IN THE @SS.

Some airbrushing of parts that are being assembled.  Planes are DEF harder than tanks.  :-(
 Washes for effect.

Oh yeah, hit the part with clear BEFORE the washes went one.  I do pin washes, NOT general washes.

Time for rivets......this was NUTS.  My first attempt.

 primer down

Used thinned down Vallejo

A mix of these two colors for the underbelly.

Tire black from Life Color Paints
Used a compass cutter to cut out masks.  Worked great
