Reveal: KV-1 1942 Final photos of the Soviet Beast

Finally the model is complete.  Actually it was completed last year, but it was such a shit year I was not able to post.  I have a ton of stuff for you all to see from this, my P-47 final photos and a ton of Miniature game models.  Minis to AFVs.  I will start posting more over the next month to catch up. 

This model was fun.  I have a few more Trumpeter kits I would like to build, including a German KV-1. That should be a cool project, when I finally get around to starting it. 

I think the model came out very nice.  It isn't as bright at the photo makes it out to be, but I like the contrast of the Soviet 4BO color and the rusty tracks.  The tracks are darker in real life as well, everything just looks too bright in these photos. 

 

WIP: KV-1 1942- Continuation of the Soviet beast Part 3

So continuing the KV, I thought it was too yellow so I mixed up some blue filter to counter the green.  Definitely toned it down, I like it!  I mixed Tamiya clear blue with some Mr. Color leveling thinner 400.  

 

Above you see the finished model.  Much better.

 

Next after some drying time it was time to add scratches.  I actually touched up the pin washes and mixed up a lighter green from the 4BO color.  These would be scratches that have not penetrated the paint through to the steel. 

After the light 4BO color, I used LifeColor Burnt Metal to do the deeper metal scratches.  It looked great.  The LifeColor for some reason have it some relief.  

 Then I decided to do some fading with oils.  I used too much white.  Learned that lesson quick.

Time for dust and grime.  I mix 50/50 the colors above and lightly spray them on lower hull.

I used pigments on the flat surfaces, then use White Thinner to start getting the dirty look.  I got those bottles YEARS ago when Mig Jiminez still owned the company.  Pigments last, especially if you don't build enough....guess I need to build more. 

After whiping them off with a number of ear cleaning buds and make-up applicators. 

Wheels on left side have pigments, and the ones on right side are clean....for now.  You can see the difference.  

WIP: KV-1 1942 - Turet, tracks oh my!

After some time away AGAIN, seems to be my routine lately, my apologies, I am back with a bunch of updates.  I have been busy repainting and painting some minis, ruining my Chinese AFV so badly that I need to repaint it and working on my KV-1.  Here is what I have so far since last update:

Used Mr. Surfacer 500 on the turret and rear of KV.

 Looks crappy at first.

 Then I whack it with a Dremel to add some roughness and start to sand.

Lets see what it will look like once primed.

 

 

And now for the FUN part of tank modelling.   UGH!  One side complete.  I used Fruilmodel metal tracks for KV-1/2;  ATL-10 (model #).
