Warhammer 40K - Black Templars Army from Days of Ol'

So a friend of mine was all into getting back into War Hammer 40K....until he got himself a new girlfriend...then he forgot.  ANYWAY, he made me dig out my old army of Black Templar Space Marines.  I still have a bunch to paint I guess.  Need to find these photos of our game. 

As I was setting up the army, I forgot just how much I actually had and more that are new in the box!  Holy COW!  Not the best photos, but at least you get the idea!  Need to get a few more games in.  I really liked what they did with this game. 

These models were all painted between 12-10 years ago....give or take a year, maybe more. 

 The Terminator dude was a special character with a power hammer.  I cut off the hammer and took two Dark Elf Executioner swords and glued them into a phase sword and painted him into a Black Templar instead of the Imperial Fist that he was.  I also removed any Imperial Fist references.

I hate the Dread.  I need to repaint it.  You can see some vehicles.  In the old game, Black Templars couldn't use certain things, with the new rules, they can use anything.  Much Better! There is a demolisher somewhere in there. 



More Figure Painting

I have taken a bit of time off from painting and building.  I have a number of things on my work bench from KOW units to finish painting, to Bolt Action, to Konflict'47 to 4Ground buildings to Black Scorpion Western miniatures.  LOTS. 

Forgot to mention, we have passed 100 posts!  This is post #103!!!

But, here are some of the latest miniatures I finished.  They are an OLD, and I mean OLD War Machine mini that I bought and started over 10 years ago....that's ONE LONG ASS artist block.  I chose to make the War casters colors reflect WW2 German Officers.

Repainted figure.  I had finished this one years ago, but did not like the wash.  I repainted the skin tones, feathers, gloves and leather items and rewashed using the Citadel shades.

Kings Of War Game Night, Unscheduled Game #1

My buddies and I are playing a friendly campaign.  As my buddy calls it (his campaign), CAMP PAIN.  Last night's game was at my place, Kingdom of Men vs. the Abyssals (nasty demons).

We used my terrain and Urban Matz mat (4x4 grassland) as our battle field.  The terrain placement was random, 2D6 and a scatter die. 

It was a fun game, but as usual, I had some bad rolling, I was rolling low....when I really needed to roll high and as a result, was crushed.  My buddy is also a master gamer which added to my demise. 

Here are some photos from the game.

Start of turn 2.  My left flank was not set up correctly.  Nino did a great job placing his forces. In this photo you can see me trying to set up a trap for him to slam hi flank. 

Turn 3.  Thing on the left look bad for me.  My knights didn't do much on the charge and the scouts with their pistols didn't do anything on the hounds. The cannon was 100% useless never hitting a thing.

 

Nino saw the trap and used his two wing units to block a potential counter charge of his General Devil (as I call him) and charged my unit of Foot Guard.

Here is an example of shit luck....which is my life story with rolling dice.  I got off a flank charge and front charge.  34 dice to hit.  Hit a good amount causing a ton of wounds...all I needed to do was NOT get snake eyes.  Guess what I got.......see photo above. 

Only unit left was Spears.  They took a charge from 2 of Nino's best units.  The General and Wizard didn't do much and I called the game at start of Turn 6 as there was NO WAY to win or draw once the spearmen went down.  Good Game Nino!

 

I like King Of War much better than the older War Hammer from GW.  Game is quicker, easier, less to remember and just as fun!  Plus magic isn't sooo powerful that one super mage can wreck your entire army.  I prefer this game 100%.

Games Work Shop Miniature: Special Edition Warhammer Empire Fire Mage

A number of years ago, I purchased the new Warhammer Army box of the newly reengineered Empire army.  It was a nice deal, plus 20% off!  Can't beat that.  Within that box, was a special character that was a limited edition, a Fire Mage!  Kinda cool. 

I have had him primed and sitting on my painting station for YEARS not knowing what to do with him.  Finally, a few weeks ago, I had inspiration and I actually painted him in 3 days.  I used Citadel paints, shades, and Reaper MSP paints. 

I did not want to paint him the way the box art depicted him.  I mean it was ok, but I wanted something different.  So this is what I came up with.  Hope you like.

 

This is the first time I have painted fire on a miniature, or on anything actually.  I used the shades on the model, especially the fire.  I used yellow, orange, red and even black shades to enhance the colors. 

 

All I need to do is add static grass on the base and I'm done!

I always have my figures that I have started but not finished close at hand.  While I was building my two AFVs, I reached over and finished these two models.  Just need to flock them.

This Vampire is an old Mordhiem model I have had for years!  I used my base painting, Citadel Shades, then minor high lights with SAME base color trick.  I do not really like the bright colors.  Some miniatures look cool that way, but I prefer more natural colors.  So you can see I paint the model, usually using 1 color.  Sometimes a high light.  I paint the base on a white primer.  Usually I spray a black primer, THEN a white heavy misting to create shadows (I spray from top down white only) and then I paint colors.  I paint the shade on the particular color only then when dry, the next shade.  So where you see red, I used the red shade, on the metal chest plate, black, on the boots and belt I used sepia, and on the pants regular brown.  Face received the skin toned shade.

Cape and hair got the black shade.  I used the same "tire black" Life color paint I used as the main base to high light the washed cape, thus giving it a more natural effect. 

This is a Bones PVC model.  I got this with the Kick Starter.  Their models aren't bad AT ALL for the price.  Cleaning up the flash lines sucks though.  Same painting method as Vampire.

Bones (Reaper) Barbarian Figure Completed

So, I finished my first BONES model.  Overall NOT BAD AT ALL.  I enjoyed working with it, though I have to say the flash removal process was painful.  So, one model down for the war band. 

I used mainly Life Color paints for the skin and cape, and a mix of citadel and VJ paints for the other items on the model, VJ Air for the main color on the basing and different Citadel Shade washes for the over all model. 

War Hammer - Vampire Counts - Dark Knights and Vampire WIP

So I have been al over the place lately.  I warned you that I had modeling A.D.D.  I have gone back to finish off some model figures I have had on my plate for years.  I am almost done, just some base painting, clear coating and flocking left!

I used Mostly GW paints on these models and their new range of GW washes.  I like them very much.  I like them better than the previous line of GW washes.  I felt the last line was too dark and staining.  The new line is the same color, but the consistency is perfect as the color finds its way into the recesses and does minor staining of color on matt finishes.  Some layering or dry brushing and you are good to go after washes have dried. 

The standard bearer I finished 3 years ago....yeah that's right.  He is the only figure that was dipped in the Army Painter dip.  He and the steed came out ok, but you can see the difference with the washes on the other 4 steeds. 

These are my Dark Nights, the previous version, prior to the new plastics.  I have so many of them that I did not want to buy the new ones and waste that money.  As silly as they might look, I kinda like them.  So I did my best in painting them to look better.  I changed out their shields with left over Grave Guard shields from the new plastic set.  The Vampire's shield is a shaved down and sanded Chaos Warrior shield.  I want to paint on some coat of arms soon, just need to figure out what I will do.

The mounted Vampire is an old one as well.  I always liked this model and finally got to building and painting it. 

The Dead Have Risen, and they have some real cool gear! Not bad for being dead.

Firstly, I need to stop taking photos with my iPhone, but it's just so easy.  The quality isn't there, but its ok for progress photos.  So here are my latest Vampire Count figures.  Lot's more building and painting to do.

Throw Back Thursday - Old Chaos Army

Well, here is a unit of my Warriors of Chaos.  I painted these guys maybe over 5+ years ago.  I can't even remember.  I'd say more.  They are still a favorite unit of mine for Fantasy battles.
