Misc. Miniatures

Rough summer.  It's getting harder and harder to find time to post updates, but I will try harder.  Been hibernating from my KV-1 and P-47, soon but in the meantime been making and painting minis. 

Here is what I have been working on:

 

 New Henchmen members of one of my Mordheim war bands. 

 Ghouls for an Undead Mordheim Warband

New Wyrdstone that I made

 What I used to make the Wyrdstone

 Used the glaze to give the illusion of the stones glowing.

 

 Making the bases with GreenStuff

 Green Stuff rollers from Green Stuff World

 First use the smooth roller, then the patterned one.

 Just trim the edges and you are done.  VERY simple and looks AWESOME

One of the new Kickstart Lawmen models from Black Scorpion.  I got a bunch for playing Legends of Old West and Tombstone.

More Figure Painting

I have taken a bit of time off from painting and building.  I have a number of things on my work bench from KOW units to finish painting, to Bolt Action, to Konflict'47 to 4Ground buildings to Black Scorpion Western miniatures.  LOTS. 

Forgot to mention, we have passed 100 posts!  This is post #103!!!

But, here are some of the latest miniatures I finished.  They are an OLD, and I mean OLD War Machine mini that I bought and started over 10 years ago....that's ONE LONG ASS artist block.  I chose to make the War casters colors reflect WW2 German Officers.

Finally finished this GW Mordheim figure for my Marianburger miniature. 

 

Repainted figure.  I had finished this one years ago, but did not like the wash.  I repainted the skin tones, feathers, gloves and leather items and rewashed using the Citadel shades.

King of War Presidents' Day game

Got another game in with my boys.  These guys LOVE Kings of War.  It reminds them of the Total War video game series.  Problem is, they are giving me MORE work to do, as in building and painting (finishing up armies really). 

 Constantine's turn.  This is turn 2.

 This is end of turn 3.  Their Soul Reaver Regiment (lower left) defeated my Heavy Pike Unit in the first charge! Brutal unit.  My Berserkers defeated his Skeleton Spears and in turn, his Soul Reveras charged the newly repositioned Berzerkers in the front and defeated them too.  The Foot Guard did prolonged battle with the Revenants and failed to route them a few times, but in the end, the Undead routed them!  The rifles on the hill blew away the Soul Reaver Cav after a few turns of shooting and that allowed my Knights to flank his Revenants. 

Here you see how the game ended.  No extra turn which caused a draw (25 point difference).  If we would of had a new turn, my plan was to run past his Soul Reaver Infantry with the Knights to get out of their arc and shoot them with my rifles and hopefully cause them to break OR shoot the standard or Necromancer. 

 

 

This game is fun.  Problem is, once things start to go bad, they go VERY bad.  And dice matter more than ever.  A few times I had wounded the Undead with crazy numbers but I rolled low and that was that!  I cant seem to roll high wit the nerve test in this game. 

 

Another mechanic i like is the use of movement trays to identify unit size.  This helps A LOT when you don't have enough models.  Say a horde of something, but you have 12-20 models.  Just spread them out on the base and you are good to go!  

Games Work Shop Miniature: Special Edition Warhammer Empire Fire Mage

A number of years ago, I purchased the new Warhammer Army box of the newly reengineered Empire army.  It was a nice deal, plus 20% off!  Can't beat that.  Within that box, was a special character that was a limited edition, a Fire Mage!  Kinda cool. 

I have had him primed and sitting on my painting station for YEARS not knowing what to do with him.  Finally, a few weeks ago, I had inspiration and I actually painted him in 3 days.  I used Citadel paints, shades, and Reaper MSP paints. 

I did not want to paint him the way the box art depicted him.  I mean it was ok, but I wanted something different.  So this is what I came up with.  Hope you like.

 

This is the first time I have painted fire on a miniature, or on anything actually.  I used the shades on the model, especially the fire.  I used yellow, orange, red and even black shades to enhance the colors. 

 

All I need to do is add static grass on the base and I'm done!

I always have my figures that I have started but not finished close at hand.  While I was building my two AFVs, I reached over and finished these two models.  Just need to flock them.

This Vampire is an old Mordhiem model I have had for years!  I used my base painting, Citadel Shades, then minor high lights with SAME base color trick.  I do not really like the bright colors.  Some miniatures look cool that way, but I prefer more natural colors.  So you can see I paint the model, usually using 1 color.  Sometimes a high light.  I paint the base on a white primer.  Usually I spray a black primer, THEN a white heavy misting to create shadows (I spray from top down white only) and then I paint colors.  I paint the shade on the particular color only then when dry, the next shade.  So where you see red, I used the red shade, on the metal chest plate, black, on the boots and belt I used sepia, and on the pants regular brown.  Face received the skin toned shade.

Cape and hair got the black shade.  I used the same "tire black" Life color paint I used as the main base to high light the washed cape, thus giving it a more natural effect. 

This is a Bones PVC model.  I got this with the Kick Starter.  Their models aren't bad AT ALL for the price.  Cleaning up the flash lines sucks though.  Same painting method as Vampire.

Bones (Reaper) Barbarian Figure Completed

So, I finished my first BONES model.  Overall NOT BAD AT ALL.  I enjoyed working with it, though I have to say the flash removal process was painful.  So, one model down for the war band. 

I used mainly Life Color paints for the skin and cape, and a mix of citadel and VJ paints for the other items on the model, VJ Air for the main color on the basing and different Citadel Shade washes for the over all model.
